Speaker 1:

We all start somewhere our roots. What defines us, shapes us and prepares us for the journey ahead. How we got there is just as important as where we are. What did it take to make it? What tools are needed on the path to success? What keeps us reaching further, like branches on a tree. Roots to Branches is a conversational podcast about the different paths that people take through life. Our goal is to find notes of wisdom and inspirational people.

Speaker 1:

All right, what's up everybody? My name is Nathan. I'm a Mass Comm major emphasis in PR right now Just started my minor in economics. It's just been a rocky road so far. I'm also a show producer at the radio station here on campus, kvut, ut Tyler Radio. I'm also the editor producer at the radio station here on campus, kvut it's UT Tyler Radio. I'm also the editor-in-chief of student media on campus. We call ourselves the Patriot Talon. I'm really excited to get to talk to interesting people, learn interesting stories and be able to share that with y'all here. On this medium of a podcast. I'm hanging out with a good friend and also fellow coworker, garrett Polk.

Speaker 2:

My name's Garrett Polk. As Nathan just said. I'm a student here at the University of Texas at Tyler. I am also a mass comm major. I have an emphasis on PR and I am a minor in graphic design. I work at the radio station here as well as a student content creator. It's been a blast and I'm really excited to co-host this podcast with Nathan and just again, have interesting conversations with different individuals so that we can help people learn about everyone's journey. Everyone's journey is very different and we want to highlight that and give everybody the opportunity to hear challenges and ways to overcome them.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean it's. It comes from our hearts. Both of us kind of had conversations about this is the stuff we like to consume is hearing interesting stories. Motivation, dedication, perseverance those are the stuff that we care about and love to hear helps drive us, and so we wanted to play our role in that by producing some more content that focuses on those stories in the space that we exist within, which is Tyler and the Tyler community.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, this podcast I'm really excited about it because Garrett and I are breaking it down into two pieces. One of the original ideas we had for a name was here and there I'm focusing on people who are here, up and coming individuals who are on a track headed towards greatness, and then Garrett is speaking to people who are down the road on that track. They're there right, and then they're kind of looking back. I'm talking to people who are looking forward, and hopefully that places this podcast in a really unique space, which is somewhere in between those two spots. It's hopefully going to be a very introspective podcast, so I'm really excited for it.

Speaker 2:

That's why we decided on the name Roots to Branches, because up-and-coming individuals. They represent the roots. They're still growing, they're still building a foundation for the branches, and then the branches represent the more successful individuals who have been accomplished. Looking back on how they got to where they were, it's all like a tree, it's a circle of life.

Speaker 2:

The heart of this podcast is the metaphor of a tree and its roots and its branches we also have a mission statement that we would like to share, which is finding notes of wisdom and inspirational people to encourage and empower our community. Hearing different stories is a way to learn about different experiences and help you as an individual to learn how to handle those situations. If it's something that's coming up in your journey from these more accomplished individuals, and also the up-and-coming individuals that we're going to be speaking to still have a story to share of how they got to where they are, their accomplishment could just be hey, I'm in college. For me personally, that's true. Nathan and I have both discussed that. We both were dropouts at one point in time and coming back to college, although to everyone else in the world it's just a, it's a checklist, for us it was a, it was a grand thing. It was like, man, I'm going to make it count. This time, man, I'm just happy to be here and making the most of that.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, absolutely. This is a conversation and we're trying to bring this conversation to all of you. We're not going to go an hour, two hours. This is consumable for all of you. Throw us on while you're going through your daily commute, while you're doing dishes or homework. I'm as excited to just have these conversations as I am to put these conversations out in a podcast. It's a learning opportunity.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely, it's a learning opportunity. Absolutely, it's a learning and growing opportunity for anyone listening and for us sitting here, these individuals. You know we haven't heard their stories yet, but we're excited to yeah. So that's pretty much all we have to say for this first introduction episode. We thank you for your time and we are excited for the future of Roots to Branches.
